چکیده

Abstracr Synthetic aperture processing yields an effective lateral r solution for intravascular ultrasound imaging. This processing is generally performed with time domain summation. In this paper, we derive a new synthetic aperture inversion method based on the Fourier domain. The analysis of the image formation shows that the frequency modulation of the PSF could be useful to improve the lat ral resolution by matched filtering. Experimental results with a wire phantom show the effectiveness of the inversion and the advantages of the Fourier-based inversion method.

Improving the quality of ultrasound images using Bayesian estimators

Medical ultrasound imaging due to close behavior of cancer tumors to body tissues has a low contrast. This problem with synthetic aperture imaging method has been addressed. Although the synthetic aperture imaging technique solved the low-contrast problem of ultrasound images, to an acceptable limit, but the performance of these methods is not even acceptable when the signal to noise ratio (SNR...

Fourier Domain Reconstruction Methods in Laser Ultrasonics and Photoacoustic Imaging

Laser-ultrasonics as well as photoacoustic imaging use optically generated acoustic waves detected at the sample surface to image its interior. In laser-ultrasonics, a laser pulse is absorbed at the sample surface generating an ultrasound pulse that propagates into the sample, is reflected at internal structures, and is detected at the surface. In photoacoustic imaging, the source of the ultras...

3D Ultrasound Transmission Tomography Using Synthetic Aperture Focusing and Regularized Algebraic Reconstruction

Ultrasound transmission tomography is presented as an imaging modality for breast cancer diagnosis. A 3D reconstruction technique is proposed for estimation of soundspeed images for the Karlsruhe 3D ultrasound transmission tomograph. The problems of sparse spatial distribution of ultrasound transducers and of low signal-to-noise ratio are approached using synthetic aperture focusing. The image ...

A High Frequency Geometric Focusing Transducer Based on 1-3 Piezocomposite for Intravascular Ultrasound Imaging

Due to the small aperture of blood vessel, a considerable disadvantage to current intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging transducers is that their lateral imaging resolution is much lower than their axial resolution. To solve this problem, a single-element, 50 MHz, 0.6 mm diameter IVUS transducer with a geometric focus at 3 mm was proposed in this paper. The focusing transducer was based on a ...

Session: P2D

The synthetic aperture focusing technique (SAFT) has been previously employed to increase the penetration and to extend the depth of focus. This is particularly important in high frequency ultrasonic imaging because dynamic focusing using arrays is not yet possible. However, performance of the SAFT is limited due to its high sidelobes. In this paper, an adaptive weighting technique based on a f...
